Food brings us together
Food has the power to bring us together. When I was young, food was the thing that brought my family together. During school it was the thing that brought my friends together. It is the underlying thing that mends relationships, melds cultures, and allows us to see eye to eye. Food is the most human thing we share. It gets us to a primitive level. To share food, break bread, look upon a fire together — we are instantly transported to the present moment.
My fondest memories have been around the table. Different elements of a meal stand out to me — sometimes it’s the plating, the food, the atmosphere, most of the time it’s the laughs, the people, the conversation that’s created. Food is the biggest ice breaker. It’s the thing that connects us and brings us to the present moment.
Eating is one thing we can all relate to. In this crazy world of turmoil and destruction — the small things like food are ever more important. Food is getting put on the back burner as we increase the intensity of our lives, yet it is the thing that we need most. Less often do we find our grandmothers passing along traditions in the kitchen. That’s what Nonna is bringing back. The ability to learn from others, embrace nourishment through food, and eat well so we can feel good and enjoy our lives.
